Matches (summary)
1. WebCom searches are not normally case-sensitive
english
- find all occurrences of the word "english". Also find "English" and "ENGLISH".
2. Searching for a phrase
english militia
- find all occurrences of the two words "english militia" together.
3. Searching for multiple required words (AND)
german;battle
- find all Web pages having both the word "german"
and
the word "battle". The semicolon (;) stands for "AND".
4. Searching for any words (OR)
english,german,scottish
- find all Web pages having
any
of the words "English", "German",
or
"Scottish". The comma (,) stands for "OR".
5. Searching for some required and some optional words (mixing AND and OR)
battle;german landsknecht,english;militia
- find all Web pages having both "battle"
and
"german landsknecht"
or
having both "english"
and
"militia".
6. Overriding the order of evaluation
military;battle;{english,german}
- find all Web pages having both the words "military" and "battle" anywhere in the page, AND at least one or other of the words "english" or "german". The curly brackets {} are used to override evaluation precedence. Without the brackets, this search would be rent;house;hottub, view, which would search for all Web pages having either all three words "rent", "house", and "hottub",
or
simply having the word "view".
